The 'OneWater' (water) exploratory PEPR
Considering water as a common good
With climate change accelerating and human pressures increasing, freshwater management is becoming critical. The OneWater - Water as a Common Good research programme brings together scientists to gain a better understanding of the complexity of the issues at different scales in order to support local stakeholders in the equitable, viable and sustainable sharing of water. Its ambition: to serve water, anticipate future changes and support regions in adapting to new challenges in a context of global change.

OneWater - Water as a Common Good brings together environmental and earth sciences, chemistry, humanities and social sciences to tackle six major challenges: anticipating changes in water in different environments, assessing water footprints, making water a sentinel for environmental and human health, proposing solutions to strengthen the resilience of socio-ecosystems, devising new modes of governance, and creating a data platform accessible to all.
Based on a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, systemic and integrated approach, the research aims to provide stakeholders with robust scientific data to better adapt public policies and practices and respond to current and future challenges. At the heart of environmental and societal issues, it aims to rehabilitate water as a common good, placing it back at the centre of ecological and human solidarity. Through multi-stakeholder dialogue, it aims to co-construct a common culture of water as a vector of environmental justice and collective resilience.
